History:

The Rivne Zoo begins its history in 1982, when, on the initiative of the Rivne Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Society for Nature Conservation, a land plot of 11.17 hectares was allocated on the eastern outskirts of the city and its landscaping was started. The first inhabitants - representatives of the local fauna - were imported from the forestry of the region and from the collection of the regional museum of local lore. These were wild boars, wolves, chanterelles, elk. A brown bear was brought from the circus, which for a long time pleased the visitors of the zoo and survived here to old age. And then active cooperation with the zoos of the then Soviet Union began. So in the zoo appeared monkeys, deer, bison, camels, Himalayan bears, various birds. From 1985 to 1988, further development of the zoo continued. At this time new aviaries appeared, a cascade of artificial reservoirs, a new office space where the aquarium was started. Due to the enthusiasm of the zoo staff, the collection of animals was replenished with new species, the formation of a collection of terrarium animals was started. Within 10 years, as a structural unit of the association of cultural parks, the zoo was being rebuilt, the territory was improved. In 1992, by the decision of the City Council, the zoo was registered as a separate legal entity. In 1998, by decree of the President of Ukraine, the Rivne Zoo was granted the status of an object of national importance (№1341 / 98 dated 09.12.1998), and its territory was recognized as an object of the Natural Reserve Fund of Ukraine. The zoo today is a favorite vacation spot and a walk for the whole family. The main part of the zoo is the remnants of an old orchard and the only 4.7 hectare natural woodland within the city. There are more than 130 species of woody, shrubs and herbaceous plants in the zoo.

The main part of the zoo is the remnants of an old orchard and the only 4.7 hectare natural woodland within the city. There are more than 130 species of woody, shrubs and herbaceous plants in the zoo. There is a veterinarian at the zoo, whose working day begins with a tour of the area and an inspection of the animals. Timely preventive vaccinations, parasite destruction, disinfection are also our doctor's job. Sick animals are given the necessary medical care.
Good animal care contributes to their offspring. So, almost 30 species of animals are born at the zoo every year. The zoo is a scientific and educational institution whose main functions are the conservation and reproduction of endangered species of animals and the promotion of natural knowledge among the population. You can learn more about each animal in detail by reading the information booths, getting qualified information from zoo specialists, and booking a guided tour. Along with scientific and educational functions, the zoo plays an even more important role in the organization of leisure and recreation of the population. Every year at the zoo there are traditional holidays - the opening of the season, the day of protection of children, oil. Every year our zoo is visited by more than 150 thousand people. For the zoo visitors is developed a convenient system of ticket prices: adult, child, preferential. And regular visitors can purchase an annual subscription, which allows them to come to the zoo more often and at a lower cost.
